Koroso Dancer Ca. 1999 18" x 10" Tempera  Koroso Dancers are women in the North of Nigeria who dance in large numbers. Often in hundreds at a time. This painting was made during the artist's National Youth Service to the Nation in Kebbi State of Nigeria. It shows the girl in front of a peaceful landscape. She is a woman who has come to terms with a sense of her independence, showing that while community is a beautiful thing, it is good to also retain one's freedom to decide certain things alone. It is a mark of courage and a mob does not always take compassionate actions..  "You don't have to wonder about it. You are wonderfully made and perfectly beautiful in every way! Right where you are, with what you have, help make the world a better place."
